Coming- Summer 2026
The Design Den
The Design Den is a safe, creative space for young people who may struggle in traditional classrooms but still deserve inspiring, meaningful learning experiences. Designed for children and teens age 8 -16 who are home educated or currently out of school, the sessions offer a calm, supportive environment where creativity and self expression come first. Textiles work such as sewing, weaving and embroidery encourages fine motor development, whilst the use of mixed media helps to develop experimentation and creativity. The repetitive, rhythmic nature of stitching and fabric work can be regulating for the nervous system, supporting children who experience anxiety, sensory dysregulation or trauma. It allows them to work at their own pace, building confidence through achievable steps and visible progress. An art-based environment also supports emotional expression. For children who struggle to verbalise feelings, creative work provides an alternative communication pathway. Through colour, texture, and design, children can safely explore belonging, frustration, pride and hope. This strengthens emotional literacy and self-awareness.
Each session will be led by a qualified art teacher and includes experience across a wide range of disciplines, including painting, drawing, textiles, jewellery making, mixed media modelling, sculpture and portfolio preparation for those who wish to build towards further study. Young people will be supported to experiment, develop technical skills and explore their own artistic voice at a pace that feels safe and achievable.
The focus is on process, confidence and connection - building friendships, discovering strengths and rediscovering the joy of learning through art, craft and textiles.

A Community-Led Initiative
We are committed to keeping our sessions accessible and inclusive. However, as an independent charity, we rely on fundraising and community support to make these programmes possible and free to attend. Without ongoing financial support, we simply cannot provide the range of services our families and children need. If you are in a position to contribute - whether through fundraising, a regular monthly or one-off donation, or offering practical help - we would be incredibly grateful. Together, we can secure a stable future for this essential provision.
