Wild Roots Eco Project

Where learning grows naturally

Wild Roots is Havenswood's outdoor learning programme, delivered in partnership with Stepney Hill Eco Project.

Follow Bramble's trail … there’s more than one way through the woods!

Designed for neurodivergent children and young people who learn best through doing, exploring and experiencing, Wild Roots offers a unique opportunity for those who struggle in step traditional classroom environments to connect with nature in meaningful ways.

Based within the beautiful Stepney Hill growing spaces, learners will spend time outdoors developing practical skills, building confidence and discovering how the natural world works. Sessions include planting, growing and harvesting fruits, vegetables and flowers, caring for the environment, wildlife observation, nature-based crafts and seasonal projects.

Working alongside experienced SEND staff and a qualified science teacher, learners will also explore local woodland habitats, investigate ecosystems, discover the science behind nature and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Our approach is hands-on, flexible and learner-led. Activities are adapted to individual interests and needs, allowing young people to follow their curiosity, develop new skills and experience success in ways that feel accessible and enjoyable.

As well as supporting learning, Wild Roots provides opportunities to improve wellbeing, develop friendships, build resilience and enjoy the calming benefits of spending time outdoors. For many neurodivergent young people, nature provides a space where they can regulate, recharge and thrive.

Whether growing vegetables in the polytunnel, exploring woodland trails, conducting nature investigations or simply enjoying time around the campfire, every session encourages curiosity, confidence and connection.

At Wild Roots, learning grows naturally.
