UPDATE ON HAVENSWOOD PROJECTS
We’re delighted to share some good news!
Havenswood is now officially working with OASIS Trust to explore the creation of a SEND Village in Scarborough. This marks a significant step forward in our vision to build a truly inclusive, community where neurodivergent children and young people can thrive.
Oasis Villages are part of Oasis Trust’s ongoing vision for community support and integrated help. The model is already being developed and tested, with two villages currently operating - one in London and a new village beginning in the Wirral. Oasis Villages are a community-focused initiative, providing a blueprint for holistic, place-based support, currently being discussed at government level and a topic of conversation at the recent Labour Party conference and also this week, in Downing Street.
We are therefore proud to be part of an exciting, pioneering movement focused on joined-up, whole-family support and care.
Our SEND Village will be a connected environment supporting children and families from early years, through education, advocacy, health and onward into a welcoming youth hub and work experience initiatives. Rather than isolated services, we are working towards a model where education, wellbeing, family support and community grow together.
Charities already involved with the Village model have been unanimous in their view that working collaboratively towards a shared vision is far more effective and beneficial for children and families than organisations operating in isolation. By pooling expertise, resources and experience, we believe we can create stronger, more sustainable support that truly meets the needs of the SEND community.
As we move into this next phase, we will be seeking to work alongside additional like-minded charities and organisations who share our values. We are keen to collaborate with partners who can offer specialist support, therapies, enrichment, family services and youth provision that respond to the real needs of our children and young people.
This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Havenswood and for Scarborough, too. A Havenswood Oasis Village will bring lasting social, educational and wellbeing benefits to North Yorkshire by creating a supportive, inclusive hub for neurodivergent children, young people and their families. It will strengthen local services by working alongside schools, health providers and community organisations, reducing pressure on overstretched systems while improving outcomes for families who often struggle to access appropriate support. The Village will contribute to the local economy through job creation, training and voluntary opportunities and work experience, and in the use of local services.
