JULIE ARCHER
CHAIR OF TRUSTEES AND PROJECT LEAD
Julie brings a determined focus and unwavering dedication to her role as project manager and Chair of Trustees.
A former British international swimmer, Julie understands the depth of dedication, drive, determination and effort it takes to pursue and achieve excellence and to never give up - qualities she’s now channeling into creating her vision for a transformative school and family support centre in Scarborough.
After retiring from competitive swimming, Julie began her professional career as a nurse and midwife, before following her creative passion into higher education with a BA (Hons) degree and teacher training. She went on to work as a university lecturer in theatre design and costume, later working for a charity where she taught business studies to teens and adults with special educational needs, including those with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. It was in this role that Julie gained first-hand insight into the distinctive strengths and challenges of neurodivergent learners. This experience not only deepened her understanding of their educational needs, but also ignited a lasting commitment to creating supportive, inclusive environments where every learner can feel confident and thrive. Julie is also a hands-on grandma to an eight-year-old grandson diagnosed with autism and ADHD, giving her real, personal insight into the needs, challenges and experiences of neurodivergent children across different stages of development.
Throughout her diverse career, Julie has overseen a number of building and expansion projects, combining a keen eye for design with strong operational expertise. Undaunted by complex challenges, she now brings her vision, determination, and leadership to Havenswood Trust, where her skills and experience will help establish a vibrant and inclusive school and family community.
Julie originates from Teesside, but now lives in Scarborough with her husband, John. They have three, grown up children and five grandchildren.
